My family are toxic

Your Question

my family has been so toxic and unfair and I’ve been quiet for too long

Answer

Hi There,

Thank you so much for trusting us with your thoughts. We know it can be difficult, but we also know how great it is for young people to share their problems. Talking about and sharing what is going on for you is a big step forward.

It sounds like you are feeling that your family are toxic and unfair. You also say that you have kept quiet about it for too long.  It is understandable that you feel the need to chat to someone about what is going on for you and how you are feeling.

You have the right to talk to somebody that you can trust, this could be someone in your family or extended family like an aunt or uncle or maybe a grandparent, or any adult that you feel comfortable talking to. It is important to know that all families are different. But you do have the right to feel safe and happy in your home. It is your parents’ job to make sure that you are safe. If you feel that you are not safe at home, there are people that you can get in touch with, who’s job it is to make sure that all young people under the age of 18 are safe and cared for.  There are some articles on the Childline website that you might find helpful. Here is the link www.childline.ie/home-and-families/

You do not have to go through this alone. If you feel you cannot talk to somebody that you know just yet, then Childline is here for you and we really would love to listen to you. At Childline we focus on you and what is important to you. The services are free and available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The team do not judge anything you say or do and will listen to everything you wish to share. The ways in which you can get in contact are through the telephone service 1800 66 66 66, through the text service on 50101, or by web chat that you access through the website www.childline.ie

We hope that you find some of the above helpful. Remember you already have made a great attempt in reaching out and describing what is going on for you.

We hope to hear from you soon. Take care of yourself,

Pat
