Answer

Welcome to Ask Pat,

You sound like you are scared and worried for your Dad as you have found needles, a burned spoon, and an empty pack of Valium. It’s understandable that you might feel this way as you don’t want him to get worse or get in trouble.

You have a right to speak and be listened to, and a right to be a safe and cared for, and it is the job of adults, such as a parent, or a teacher or a social worker, to protect you and help keep you safe. It might help if you could talk to another adult in your life, if you can think of someone that you get on with and trust.

You might find some information on www.drugs.ie. They also have a freephone number 1800 459 459.

Remember, Childline is always here to listen and to support you. You can call Childline on 1800 66 66 66 (24 hours a day), text Childline on 50101 (10am – 4am every day) or chat with Childline online on this website (10am – 4am every day).

Take care,

Pat.
