Make parents proud

Your Question

How do I make my parents proud.

Answer

Hi there,

Thank you so much for reaching out to Ask Alex. This is a positive step, and we are delighted to be able to help offer you some support and guidance. Thank you for trusting us with your thoughts. We know that it can be difficult to ask for help, and this is a big and positive step for you.

It sounds like you need support and some reassurance. We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. Have you ever tried to speak to your parents and tell them how you feel? Maybe this would open a conversation, and they might let you know that they are proud of you for just being you, and that’s enough!

If you don’t feel like you can talk to your parents, is there anyone else in your life who you could talk to? Someone you trust who can listen to you in a non-judgemental manner so you feel seen and heard. This could be a friend, teacher, or family member. Letting people we know and trust how we feel can often be very helpful in our journey moving forward and help make us feel better.

It sounds like you’re giving yourself a hard time, so we’ve shared an article below that might be able to help you be kinder to yourself: www.childline.ie/stop-beating-yourself-up-why-we-all-need-more-self-compassion/.

Maybe you would like to chat to one of the Childline team about how things are for you? At Childline, there is always someone ready to listen to you in a non-judgemental manner. We are focused on you and what is important to you. You can contact us through our free phone service; the number is 1800 66 66 66. Alternatively, you can chat with us through our webchat service by clicking on the purple Messenger circle at www.childline.ie.

We are so proud of you for reaching out, and we want you to know that you should be proud of yourself, too, for just being you because you are a gift to this world.

Wishing you all the best!

Alex
