Answer

Welcome to Ask Pat,

You are telling us that you don’t have a best friend and wondering is that something everyone should have?

It sounds like you are not too sure about whether everyone should have a best friend or not.

There are no rules on whether you should have a best friend. Childline believes that every child has the right to be happy. What is important is that you are happy and comfortable in your own situation, whether that is having a best friend or not. What is right for you is what is most important.

You can find some articles on our website about friendships here www.childline.ie/sexuality-and-relationships/. If you would like to chat a little further about this we would be delighted to hear from you. You could tell us how things are going for you. We are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on our phone line at 1800 66 66 66, on our text service 50101, or by live chat at www.childline.ie. All of our services are free, non-judgmental and confidential.

Thank you for contacting us here at Ask Pat.

We wish you well.

Pat
