Your Question

Is it normal to not have boobs at 12

Answer

Hi there,

You’re very welcome to Ask Alex today and thank you for your question. You’re wondering if it’s normal to not have boobs at 12.

It sounds like this is something that is on your mind, and perhaps it is also something that is causing you a little bit of worry. Absolutely it is normal; each person’s body develops at different times and during puberty, some changes to our bodies happen quicker than others, and at different times to other people. Sometimes we might compare how we look, or what changes are happening to other people, but it is completely normal for everyone to be different. Puberty can start before or after your friends. There are many changes your body may go through and it can take a while for all the changes to happen. You may find the following articles useful: https://www.childline.ie/puberty/ and https://www.childline.ie/what-exactly-happens-to-your-body-and-mind-during-puberty/.

It may feel embarrassing talking about the changes you are going through with people in your own life, but you do have the right to information and support around the changes that you are going through. You might also have lots of different feelings and emotions as you grow up. Would there be anyone in your own life you would feel comfortable talking to about these changes and feelings? This person could be a friend, or a trusted adult like a family member or teacher.

Sometimes, it might feel a bit awkward talking to people you know about puberty so remember, Childline is always here to listen to you, and we would never judge anything you say. We have our online chat services at www.childline.ie, or our phone service on 1800 66 66 66. All these services are available 24/7 and are completely free and confidential. We would be delighted to hear from you.

Thanks again for your question!

Take care,

Alex
