Answer

Hi there, you are very welcome to Ask Pat.

You are asking is it bad to feel sad all the time? As a child, you have the right to be happy and we at Childline would be concerned if you were feeling sad all of the time.

You have the right to get help and support for the way that you are feeling. To talk to somebody about why you are feeling like this and what it is that is making you feel sad. This person could be a trusted adult like a parent, a teacher, a councillor or a friend, someone who you feel comfortable talking to.

Childline is also here for you. You can call us and chat a little bit more about your feelings around being sad. Our phone lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are here to listen, support and to help you explore the options that are available to you. Our phone number is 1800 66 66 66. Childline is a confidential service and it is free to call us. If you prefer to text, our number is 50101. We have a web chat service on this website www.childline.ie. too, and both the text and webchat services are free.

Alternatively, you might find some helpful information on the Childline website, in the How I Feel section.

Thank you for reaching out to us tonight.

We wish you well. Take care,

Pat.
