Your ethnicity

What is ethnicity?

Your ethnicity is something that links you to a certain group of people in society. The people in the group may be from the same country, have the same history or have the same cultural identity.

This may mean that you look, talk or act different to other groups of people.

This may mean that you look, talk or act different to other groups of people. In Ireland there are many different types of ethnic groups. Whatever group you belong to will have an impact on how you see the world and your place in society. Your culture may bring new and exciting ideas to other cultures. But it might also scare people who feel that your way of doing things is wrong or too different. No matter the ethnic group that you belong to, you have a right to be happy and safe in your daily life.

In Ireland we believe that you have the right to celebrate all that makes you different and the same as other cultures. There are many different organisations that are there to make sure that everyone, no matter where they are from, are given the same chances and experiences as everyone else.
