Starting a new school

Change can be hard. Whether it’s going to a new school or moving from primary to secondary school, everyone finds it difficult at first. Even your parents can feel nervous if they are starting a new job.

It’s natural to feel nervous, scared, worried or excited and happy.

It’s natural to feel nervous, scared, worried or excited and happy. You might also miss your old school and friends. Remember, you don’t have to face this alone. You have the right to talk to someone you trust about all this.

A new school also gives you a chance to make new friends. Try to stay as calm as possible and talk to other people. If you’re not sure what to talk about you can always start chatting about your teachers, subjects and things you have in common with your classmates.

You can talk to your parents and teachers about what’s going on for you. If you find it hard talking to them you can always talk to us here in Childline.
