Answer

Hi There,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask Alex with what is going on for you. It can be a very hard step to take to open up about what you are experiencing, and it takes great courage to do so. Well done!

You have mentioned that you have a mental disorder where you pull out your hair and that you have a bald patch as a result and that your parents are calling you horrible names. It sounds like a lot to be dealing with and from what you say, you may be finding it hard to get the support that you need at home.

No one has the right to call you horrible names or make you feel bad about yourself, especially your parents. This would be a form of emotional abuse. Emotional abuse is when someone hurts you with words or not properly caring for you emotionally. We would be concerned to hear that this is happening to you. Have you spoken to anyone in your life about how your parents are treating you? We understand it can be a hard thing to do but it really helps to speak about these types of things with others in our support circle. It would help to speak to a trusted adult such as a teacher, doctor or a youth worker. Are you linked in with support for the mental disorder you mentioned? You also have the right to access mental health care and it is important that your mental health needs are met.

We have some articles on our website that you may find helpful: www.childline.ie/getting-help/ , www.childline.ie/what-is-abuse/ and www.childline.ie/six-things-you-need-to-maintain-good-mental-health/ amongst many others.

It sounds like you may have a lot of feelings that you are unsure about as there is a lot going on for you. Know that Childline is always here to listen and talk about what is going on for you and how you are feeling. You have been very brave in reaching out today. If you would like to talk to about this further, there is somebody waiting to talk or chat with you right now, or when ever you feel ready. You can call us at anytime on 1800 66 66 66, or you can start a Live Chat on www.childline.ie by clicking on the Orange Tab on the right-hand side of your screen.

We hope some of the above is helpful for you. Take care of yourself,
