Answer

Hi, you’re very welcome to Ask Pat.

Thank you for contacting us and sharing your feelings, we know it’s not always easy to do this. You have been really brave to reach out and tell us about what this year has been like for you.

You’ve said that you feel like killing yourself, and you have tried to kill yourself twice this year. We are incredibly sorry to hear you have been feeling like you want to end your life and we are really concerned that you have these feelings. It sounds like there is a lot going on in your life at the moment as you are trying to hold down your job while also doing your best to cope with depression, borderline personality disorder, self-harm, psychosis and trauma.

You have the right to live a happy life and to get help and support for how you are feeling and what’s going on for you. You mention that you have help – what does that help look like? It is important that you have someone in your life you can trust and talk to. We know it can be difficult to share how we are feeling, but it is also really important to ask for help when things are tough.

There are organisations that can provide you with support. Pieta House is there for those of us who are having suicidal thoughts. They have a freephone number: 1800 247 247, a text line: 51444 and therapists you can talk to. You can find out more here: https://www.pieta.ie/how-we-can-help/feeling-suicidal/ You might want to have a look at this website as well: www.jigsaw.ie

If you ever feel like you’re in immediate risk of harming yourself or of ending your own life, please contact your local GP or call emergency services on 999 or 112 so you can get the medical help you need. These numbers can be dialed from any mobile or landline and free of charge.

You do not have to go through this on your own. You can always speak to Childline. We are here 24/7, 365 days a year. You can ring us on 1800 66 66 66, text us on 50101 or use our webchat via www.chidline.ie. We are always here to listen and give you a safe space to talk.

Take care of yourself,

Pat
