Answer

Hello, your very welcome to Ask Pat. Thank you for reaching out and sharing with us what’s going on for you in your life.

You say you are getting hit and shouted at. You do not mention who is hitting and shouting at you.  Regardless of who it is, no one has the right to hit you, and no one has the right to hurt you with words that make you feel bad. We are really concerned for your safety and well-being. If you feel you are in any danger in your home at any time, you can contact the emergency services at 999 or 112.

We are sorry that you are going through such a tough time. You have been very brave to contact us. We know that it is not always an easy thing to do. Well done!

You have the right to seek help and support, and to talk about your thoughts and feelings. You have the right to be heard and listened to. Do you have a trusted adult in your life that you can talk to about how you are feeling and what is going on? This adult could be a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or a teacher. We know it can be hard to open up and talk to someone who is close to us, so maybe talking to somebody outside of your family who you are comfortable talking to, might help you at first. It is important for your own physical and mental wellbeing that you get the help and support that you deserve.

Túsla is the Child and Family Agency in Ireland. Here, there are social workers whose job it is to make sure that all people under the age of 18 are safe. You can find your local Túsla office here www.tusla.ie/get-in-touch/local-area-offices/. You may need the help of an adult to talk to somebody at Túsla, but it is important that you know, that the adults in your life have a responsibility to keep you safe and get you help if you are not. The Childline website has some information too which you may like to look at www.childline.ie/bullying-abuse-safety-and-your-rights/; www.childline.ie/your-rights/ and www.childline.ie/home-and-families/.

Childline is here for you whenever you would like to talk, or chat and we really would love to listen to you. You are welcome to talk to Childline by phone on 1800 66 66 66 or text on 50101 or through web chat on www.childline.ie. These services are open 24-hours a day, every day and are free and confidential. Childline can help you look at some options that are available to you.

You are brilliant in coming forward and reaching out. You can get in touch with Childline anytime. Remember, you have the right to support and to be safe and happy. You do not have to be alone during this tough time.

We really hope to hear from you soon.

Keep safe,

Pat
