Alex's Answer

I feel like a slump every January

Your Question

Is there a reason I always feel like a slump in January?

Answer

Hi there,

You are welcome to Ask Alex. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your question. It can be a difficult thing to do, you have been very brave to do this, so well done.

It sounds like you find January a hard month as you hit a slump. After Christmas can bring up different emotions for us all. It is great that you have self-awareness around this and that you recognise yourself that you hit a slump.

We can each hit slumps at different times of the year, or during different seasons and this is totally normal. It is important though that we talk to someone that we trust about how we are feeling and put into place some things to do when we hit slumps like this.

Some great ways of helping how you feel might be going for a walk, listening to music, journaling, doing some art or talking to someone close to you. We each have different things that we can do, that help us around how we are feeling. You chose what feels right for you. It can be also great to recognise the things that you enjoy doing and the things you have to look forward to in the year ahead.  This article may be helpful for you www.childline.ie/feel-better-january/.

Always remember, no matter how you are feeling, you are very welcome to come on to us in Childline. We can have a chat about what is going on for you and how you are feeling. We are always here to listen to you and we will never tell you what to do, but we will give you the space to explore your options that might help you with how you are feeling. You can contact us through www.childline.ie which is our Live Chat service, or you can call us on 1800 66 66 66. Both of these services are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Thank you again for taking the time out to come on and ask your question.

Take care,

Alex
