Alex's Answer

I failed a subject, how can I improve

Your Question

How can I improve on trying to get better at a subject I failed?

Answer

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to Ask Alex.
It sounds like you have failed a subject at school and that you would like to figure out ways that could help you to improve.

Well done for having such a positive attitude towards this – it may have been disappointing when you found out you had failed the subject, so it’s great that you are keen to improve and do better next time – that’s a great start!

It might be worth exploring some options with trusted adults in your life. Your teachers at school are there to help and support you in doing your best work – have you thought about speaking with your teacher and asking for some advice on how to improve? A good approach might be to try and work out where you felt you may have struggled in the subject so that you can focus on addressing that gap and your teacher should be able to give you some tips on where to start.

You could also talk to someone at home – your parents or guardian – about what changes you could potentially make to help you when you are doing homework or revision at home. Having a clutter-free workspace can support focus and learning, and having a study plan where you allow some extra revision time for this subject could also be helpful.

Staying positive is important as you try to improve in this subject and don’t be afraid to ask for help from those close to you – you deserve to be supported as you embark on a new school year.
