Alex's Answer

I chatted to Childline, and they ended the call because they thought I was posing as someone else.

Your Question

Tonight I chatted to childline, I felt good half way through my chat and then she said she believes I am posing to be someone else and ended my chat? I was being myself chatting about myself and my family really, okay so that shocked me and does not make sense to me? I taught childline was a place where I would be listened to and believed and childline did not believe me that is the reaction I got from it. Shocked, sad and confused?

Answer

Hi there, welcome to Ask Alex.

Thanks for reaching out to us about your experience with our Listening Service.

You wrote to us saying you were chatting to a volunteer about yourself and your family, and the volunteer ended your chat because they believed you were posing as someone else. It’s understandable that you feel shocked, sad and confused opening up about yourself and your family and the chat suddenly ending.

At Childline you are free to talk about whatever you like without judgement; we are sorry to hear of your negative experience but you’ve done the right thing by letting us know. We always want to try to improve the service we offer young people. We want to reassure you that Childline is a non-judgmental and confidential listening service, and you should never feel worried about contacting us.

It important to remember that all young people don’t sound the same. They can have different accents, and the language they use can be slightly different too. You have a right to be listened to, and believed that you are a unique young person. You mentioned you were feeling good before the chat ended and if you would like to get in touch again, we would love to chat and to listen to what’s going on for you. Childline is here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We are available for a web chat through: www.childline.ie, by text at 50101 or by free phone on 1800 66 66 66.

Thanks again for contacting us, we hope to hear from you soon,

Alex.
