How do I use the text service?

Your Question

How do I text you

Hi there, you are welcome to Ask Alex and we’re so glad you were able to get in touch.

It sounds like you’re interested in contacting our Childline Listening Services but you’re not sure how to do it. That’s something we can definitely help you with, so you’ll be able to contact us any time you need to talk. Childline services are confidential and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are 4 ways to get in contact with Childline: phone, text, web chat and Ask Alex.

You say that you want to text us but you’re not sure how. All you need to do is send a text message – it doesn’t have to say anything – to 50101 and one of our trained Childline Listening team will reply to you to begin a chat. You can contact us about anything that’s on your mind, it doesn’t have to be something in particular. Our text service is free, so you don’t need to have credit to access it, and it won’t cost you if your phone is bill pay.  Our freephone number is 1800 66 66 66 and Childline’s webchat service is accessible through the website: We also have a lot of articles and resources on our website that may be useful to young people, it covers a broad range of topics and may be a good source of support if you have something going on for you.

The most important thing for you to know is that no matter what you say or ask, you will not be judged, and we won’t tell you what to do. You will be provided with a safe space to talk about your life and what matters to you. You don’t need to have a problem to contact us, it doesn’t matter what you want to chat to us about, it can be about anything at all.

We hope that this information helps you so that you feel able to contact us next time you need to talk.

Take care.
