Thank you very much for taking the time to come on here and ask your question.

 

It sounds like you are thinking about taking the first step to get driving.

 

There are a few different things you need to do in Ireland before you can get a Driver’s Licence. You will find most of the information on www.rsa.ie/.

 

Just a brief description for you though, you need to be 16 before you can apply for the theory test. The license you will get once you have completed the theory test is called a learner permit. The learner permit lasts for two years. The driver theory test is based on the rules of the road in Ireland, and these are the questions that will be asked of you on the day of your test; the questions are multiple-choice questions. This test is on a computer in one of the RSA test centres.

 

Once you have passed this test, you can then proceed to complete the compulsory driving lessons, and they would encourage you to get as much experience driving as possible to prepare you for passing the driving test. There are 12 compulsory lessons that you would need to complete before sitting your driving test.
