Answer

Hi there, welcome to Ask Alex and thanks so much for getting in touch.

You have mentioned that you are trying to convince your mum to take you to the doctors with an injury to your leg that has been going on for 6 months, and that your school has gotten involved in asking your mum also.

You are very brave in reaching out to ask this question and thank you for sharing this with the Ask Alex Team. It must be really upsetting and frustrating to be in pain for such a long time, and it must also be really hard for you when it is affecting your sleep.

We understand you’re looking at Google to try and find some answers, but it would be important to get a proper diagnosis from a medical professional. You have the right to medical care, to see your GP to ask for advice and to find out what is going on with your leg that is causing you so much pain. We are just wondering if you’ve chatted to your mum about the reason why she is so reluctant to bring you to see your doctor and if maybe she would bring you to A&E as an alternative? We know you told the school, but do you have another trusted family member that you could talk to who might also help you chat with your mum? Here is an article from the Childline website about asking for help where you may find a new way of talking to your mum about getting the medical support you deserve www.childline.ie/not-sure-how-to-ask-for-help-heres-what-to-do/

You would also be very welcome to contact the Team in Childline if you’d like to chat about this some more. Childline can be reached by calling 1800 66 66 66, or you can always choose to chat to us online at our Live Chat service on our website www.childline.ie (just click on the orange Live Chat tab!). We are open 24/7 so you are welcome to chat with us any time that suits you. The service is free and confidential. You are not alone, Childline is here for you.

Thanks so much for reaching out, take care. We hope to hear from you soon.
