Your Question

Is it bad that I dream about suicide?

Answer

Hello there,

Thank you for contacting Ask Alex and reaching out to us for help and support. Asking for help is a strength, as it means you’re trying to change things for yourself and maybe others for the better.

You have asked us, “Is it bad that I dream about suicide?” We all have dreams that can worry us from time to time. The common theory on nightmares is that we have them because our brains are working through memories and emotions as we sleep, trying to make sense of and helping us process what is happening in our lives.

Dreams that might worry us can be triggered by many factors, including stress and anxiety. It might be worth thinking about what might be triggering your dreams of suicide. Is this a thought that you have when you’re awake? Are you currently experiencing stress and anxiety when you’re awake?

If you find yourself thinking about the dream and worrying about it, it might be worth talking to a trusted friend or a member of your family. You have the right to talk about how you are feeling, and to get support if you need it, from mental health professionals.
