Does Childline help with closeted LGBTQIA teenagers?

Answer

Hi there,

You’re very welcome to Ask Alex and thank you for sharing your question today. You’re wondering if Childline helps with closeted LGBTQIA teenagers.

We help by providing a safe space for any young person to talk about what’s going on in their life and how they are feeling. We understand how difficult it can be, feeling like you have to hide how you’re feeling from those around you. If you want to talk about being LGBTQIA, we are absolutely here to listen without any judgement. You can share whatever is going on for you, we explore what life is like for you right now and we do our best to help you see what your options are. We can also provide additional resources that may be helpful if that’s what you would like.  The conversation is entirely at your own pace, there’s no rush and you don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to. You can contact us online by clicking on the Live Chat button on our website (www.childline.ie) or by calling us on 1800 66 66 66.

We also have a section on our website called Sexual and Gender Identity which you can find here: https://www.childline.ie/sexuality-and-relationships/ and maybe some of the articles would be helpful or point you in the direction of  further support if that’s what you are looking for.

We would love to hear from you, and our services are available 24/7, each and every day of the year.

Take care,

Alex
