Answer

Welcome to Ask Pat. Childline is a confidential listening service for children and young people up to the age of 18. Because it is a confidential service, we don’t talk about any calls that we receive.

However we do know that some young people have died by suicide in Ireland. If a young person is feeling suicidal, it is important to reach out for help. That help might be talking to a trusted adult, for example a parent, teacher, school counsellor, doctor or family friend. They can also talk to Childline.

Childline can be contacted for free at any time of the day or night by calling 1800 66 66 66. Young people can also chat with us live on this website, or, they can contact Childline by sending a text to 50101.

They can also contact the Pieta House 24-hour suicide line by phoning 1800 247 247.
