Alex's Answer
Can't concentrate
Your Question
I find it really hard to concentrate while drawing. I can never finish a piece. I always get side tracked by doodling on a different page or listening to music. Why can’t I concentrate? Is there any way to help me stay focused?
Answer
Hi there,
Â
It’s great that you’ve reached out for help! Many people, especially teenagers, find it challenging to concentrate on tasks like drawing. You’re not alone in feeling this way, and it’s wonderful that you want to understand why this happens and how to improve your focus.
Â
There could be a few reasons why you’re finding it hard to concentrate. Sometimes, our minds wander when we’re feeling stressed or have a lot on our minds. Other times, it might be because we’re trying to do too many things at once, like drawing while listening to music. Everyone’s brain works differently, so what distracts one person might help another.
Â
One way to improve your focus is to create a distraction-free environment. Try to find a quiet space where you can work without interruptions. You might also set specific times for drawing and stick to a routine, which can help train your brain to focus during those periods. Breaking your drawing into smaller, manageable tasks can also make it easier to complete without getting overwhelmed.
Â
If you find that music distracts you, consider working in silence or choosing instrumental music instead. Taking regular breaks can also be helpful; sometimes, stepping away for a few minutes can refresh your mind and make it easier to come back and concentrate. Remember, it’s okay to experiment with different techniques until you find what works best for you.
Â
If you continue to struggle with focus and it’s affecting your daily life, it might be helpful to talk to someone about it. This person could be a parent, a teacher or a family friend.
