Alex's Answer
Can I pick where I live
Your Question
Can i pick where i want to stay at home?Â
Answer
Hi there,
Â
You are very welcome to Ask Alex. Thank you for taking the time to come and ask your question. It sounds like you are wondering about where you can stay.
Â
As a child in Ireland under 18, you have the right to a safe home and shelter. It is the responsibility of your parent or guardian to ensure that you have a home that is safe and comfortable for you. If this is something you don’t have, we would be very concerned for you.
Â
When you are asking about where you can stay, you can leave home at the age of 16 with the permission of a parent/guardian. Without their permission, from 18 years, you can leave home of your own will. There are lots of articles abound family relationships on the Childline website, maybe one will help with your situation. Here is the link www.childline.ie/home-and-families/.
Â
If you would like to chat some more about what life is like for you, you are welcome to reach out to us through Live Chaton www.childline.ie or call on 1800 66 66 66 to talk to us more about how you are feeling. We will never judge you or tell you what to do. We will give you the space to talk about whatever you would like.
Â
Childline is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, so feel free to come and chat with us at any time.
Â
Thanks again for taking the time to ask your question.

Take care,
Alex
