Topic: I hate my anxiety and panic attacks

Your Question

Dear pat,
I hate my anxiety and panic attacks. I wish they would just go away for good. Everything I’ve read about helping them doesn’t really help. Have you got any advice?
Thank you so much,
X

Answer

Welcome to Ask Pat,

We are really sorry to hear this is going on for you. We understand that anxiety and the consequences of anxiety are not easy for a young person to go through. Anxiety can present itself in lots of different ways and can also vary in how it impacts on a person’s daily life.

It sounds like you are wondering how to cope with these feelings of anxiety and the panic attacks. It sounds like you have coped with these feelings by reading about ways to control. Sometimes it helps to talk to a trusted adult about how you are feeling, for example a teacher, your doctor, a parent or another family member. You have a right to be safe, to get help and support around how you are feeling.

There is also support and information on the HSE website www.yourmentalhealth.ie, where you can find information about many issues related to mental health and about other support services.
You can Childline on 1800 66 66 66 to talk about how you are feeling. Or you can contact text service, 50101 or webchat service, through the website, which are available from 10am to 4am every day. We are here to listen, support and to help you to explore the options that are available to you in your life to help you in a way that suits you.

Take care,
Pat
