Angry and fighting with my family

Your Question

what do I do if I keep getting angry and having fights with my family

Answer

Hello, welcome to Ask Alex!

It takes courage to reach out, especially when things at home feel tough, so well done! It’s really important to know, that you’re  not  alone, and there are people who care about you and want to help.

It is quite normal to get angry and take it out on those who are closest to us and where we feel safe, which is quite possibly your family and home. Can you think back to when this first began?

Learning to notice your triggers could be a stepping stone in beginning the repair of that relationship that you sound like you want to mend. Remember, anger is an emotion that sometimes is associated with negativity but really, it is just another one of our emotions that we need to use in the most appropriate way.

If you want to read up a little more to understand your anger, maybe you could have a look at Understanding and managing anger and there are some websites listed there for further information.

This is an article about how to reconnect with your family after an argument, which you may find helpful www.childline.ie/reconnecting-with-your-parents-or-siblings-after-a-fight/.
