Answer

Hello there, welcome to Ask Alex,

You’re telling us you are really depressed and actively self-harming. You are not able to tell anyone, and you would really like some help.

We are so sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way, and it’s brave of you to reach out. We want you know that you’re not alone. Many young people go through tough times, and it’s okay to look for support. It’s important to recognise that what you’re going through is valid, and your feelings matter.

We would be concerned to hear that you are actively self-harming. Have you heard of www.pieta.ie? They are an organisation that offer free support to people who are self-harming. It would be important that you get the support you need and deserve. Also, with your depression, have you seen your GP? You have the right to medical help and support for how you are feeling too. These articles may be of some help to you too www.childline.ie/self-harm/and www.childline.ie/what-is-depression/.

We empathise with the struggles you’re facing, and it’s important to acknowledge that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It might feel daunting, but consider opening up to someone you trust, be it a friend, family member, or teacher. They care about your well-being and can provide the support you need.

If you feel you are not ready to talk to somebody you know yet, that’s ok. The Childline Team are here for you. You can talk to us anonymously by phone or web chat. The services are open 24-hours a day, every day. The service never closes. You can talk and we will listen to you. We will not judge you and we will explore what options are available to you. Our 24-hour freephone number is 1800 66 66 66 and our web chat is through Live Chat on our website www.childline.ie

Remember, looking for help is a courageous step, and there are people who genuinely care about your well-being. You deserve support, and there are resources available to guide you through this difficult time. Don’t hesitate to take the next step toward healing and reaching out to those around you.

Look after yourself,
Alex
