I Want to See A Counsellor
You are here: Home » Support » Depression » I Want to See A Counsellor
A lot of times the first step in talking to a counsellor is seeing a GP who can recommend one who is child and family centred. Therapists and counsellors specialise in different areas, so finding one that suits your needs can be discussed with a school counsellor, a school psychologist, or a GP. If you’ve come this far and you want to talk to someone further you’re on your way and you’re doing really well. We know it can be hard to talk and know what to say, but knowing that you need to talk and that you want help is often the first step.
Most counsellors take referrals from GPs, from doctors in community care and from medical specialists in hospitals and clinics. It will depend on the area you are in on what kinds of services are available. A GP, a parent, or an adult that you trust can be a good place to start if you think you would like to see a counsellor.
