I'm new to Childline! Is Childline 24-7?

Hello and welcome to Childline's messageboard.

You tell us you are new to our online services so I will tell you a little about what we do. We listen to what you say and write and will not judge you or tell you what to do. It's a safe place to chat, but its best if you do not post any information about you or your friends and family that would lead anyone reading this to figure out who you are - that's why we ask you to pick a username or nickname only you know.

However if you did give us details about yourself and we felt you were in danger or needed support and help then under the law we would pass this on to the Gardai or social workers who are the people who can help you when you need support and help outside your family.

You ask if we are 24 - 7 - the messageboard is 24-7 and we get back to you in at least four days but often it's much quicker than that. The One to One which is like MSN messaging is open from 2 to 10 o'clock every Wednesday to Sunday and a bit later on Monday and Tuesday when we here for you from 6 - 10 in the evening.

You can also let us know what you think of the site or vote on current issues by clicking on the feedback section from the main page.

We also have a live free text service called Teentxt, that you can use during the same times as the One to One - think of a nickname only you know and then text the word talk to 50101 where you will be asked for a nickname, your age and if you are a boy or a girl. You can then text whenever we are open about anything you like - we won't know who you are and your number will not be shown to us.
