It can be difficult to know what to eat and how much to eat, especially as you get older and your body starts growing more. An eating disorder is a term used to describe a lot of conditions characterized by difficulties in eating, emotional distress, and the consequences of these difficulties. It can be life threatening, but people can recover.
People with eating disorders often:
- Have been on a diet
- Have low self esteem
- Are really concerned with their body shape, weight and size
- Are obsessed with food
- Fear weight gain
- Have difficulty identifying and talking about their real needs
- May see their body as larger or bigger than it actually is
- May have problems around control
- Might find it hard to talk about their feelings
- Might find it hard to deal with conflict
- May be depressed
- May experience mood changes
